International concert artist François-Frédéric Guy offers us a magnificent recital. Mirroring three works by Ravel, whose 150th birthday we celebrate this year, Liszt's Bénédiction de Dieu dans la Solitude musically represents spiritual solitude and religious meditation. In the second half, Beethoven?s Moonlight Sonata and Waldstein Sonata, which for every musician are a grail to be attained, are a summit to be climbed, a quest for the beyond and the infinite. Beethoven takes us to the beyond without religion, but not without spirituality; and in so doing, he perhaps joins Ravel, whose shimmering colors bewitch us and lift us above ourselves?
"François-Frédéric Guy lets us hear a whole inner world, almost... You'd think you were in Beethoven's inner ear," ventured an audience member at the exit ? Le Figaro
