The foundation stone of the church of Saint-Rémy was laid by Thomas Bouchard, alderman and treasurer of the city, in 1522. However, its construction lasted more than 100 years and was completed in 1643. The construction was interrupted for several decades due to the conflicts of the Wars of Religion between Catholicism and Protestantism.
