Le Vasterival

Garden of the 4 seasons

Spring, summer, autumn, winter– you’re sure to fall under the spell of the varied and unique plant arrangements in the Vasterival garden, located in Sainte-Marguerite-sur-Mer.

A visit in good company

You’ll have the chance to explore the garden alongside a passionate gardener. If you wander around on your own, you could get lost, missing out on unknown, small or hidden species. And, above all, you might miss out on the many details of the history of this exceptional park.

Fabulous plant tableaux

After a long avenue of beech trees, you move on to mown or moss paths. You can then admire a multitude of plant tableaux. 10,000 species of plant grace the 12-hectare garden.

You can distinguish several heights: majestic trees, then bushes, ground cover plants. Everything is well thought out, yet the garden looks completely wild.

Beauty in all weathers

The most beautiful and impressive aspect of this garden is its ability to offer a different, matching panorama in all weathers.

The plants have been chosen according to different characteristics: types of bark, foliage, color, flowering…. These plants are selected for their suitability to the climate.

Rhododendrons in spring, hydrangeas* in summer, maples in autumn, hellebores* in winter… change their appearance with the seasons.

The result is a succession of elegant, well-balanced plant tableaux – enough to enchant the eye and make for splendid photos!

A little history

In 1955, Princess Greta Sturdza fell in love with this undergrowth. Over the course of 50 years, she built up a considerable collection of plants, sought after by the world’s leading botanists*.

Through the long beech alley, the Princess imagined a discreet, hidden, English-style entrance… Self-taught*, passionate, a force of nature, she created her entire garden herself.
