DIEPPE INTERNATIONAL KITE FESTIVAL

Wind Library

A breath of imagination in every corner of the village
Reading the world through kites

Need a quiet break between flights? Enter the kiosk of the ephemeral library, a little reading corner set up at the heart of the festival, open to families, schoolchildren and dreamers of all ages. The kiosk is run by the D’Lire network and the “Lire et Faire Lire” association, with the aim of helping people discover kites through books, images and the imagination.

🌬️ What you’ll find :

📖 A rich and accessible exhibition: One sky, one world

Discover how the kite is used, symbolised or ritualised across the world’s cultures:

  • China, Japan, India, Indonesia, Thailand, Korea, Cambodia, Greece, Malaysia…
  • Each panel combines history, myths, local practices and unusual anecdotes, accompanied by colourful, fun illustrations.

Did you know that the word “kite” comes from “flying snake”?
That it was used to spy during wars?
That it is a messenger of the gods in several traditions?

🌈 A peaceful reading corner

Make yourself comfortable as you leaf through a selection of children’s books about the wind, the sky, travel and the traditions of the world. A place where the kite reads as much as it flies.

🔤 A secret word to guess, and a little present to match!

Children can explore the Un ciel, un monde exhibition and drop by the Tourist Office shop stand at the festival to pick up their surprise…
